In the FAQ you can consult the most frequently asked questions to find answers to anything you’re not quite sure about with regard to how the Smart Medal app works.

I can’t download the Smart Medal app. What now?

Despite the fact that the Smart Medal app has been subjected to extensive testing, some people may have trouble downloading the app in certain exceptional cases. If you run into this problem, please send an email to info@tde.nl, specifying the brand and model name of your smartphone, as well as which software version your phone is running on. We will then try to find out whether and how you can still download the Smart Medal app.

I accidentally entered the wrong race number. What now?

No worries, you can delete any Running Story that wasn’t meant for you. You do this by removing the entire medal at the bottom of the edit page (reachable at the upper right over the medal page). You can now rescan your medal and enter the right race number, so that you can open your very own Running Story.

Which languages does the Running Story support?

The Running Story is available in Dutch and English.

Can I share my Running Story with friends?

Yes, you can. Watch your Running Story and tap the ‘Share’ button on the final screen. You can now choose how you want to share your Running Story.

Is the Running Story free?

Yes, the Running Story is completely free and is offered to you by the event or another organization involved in the event, such as a sponsor.

What is a Running Story?

A Running Story is a personal memento of your achievement at a running event. In a Running Story, you’ll find photos of the event in chronological order. We’ll also add personal statistics to the photos, such as your race number, start time, average speed and finishing time. You can also personalize your own Running Story by adding more photos.

How can I further personalize my Running Story?

By taking photos yourself prior to or during your race, you can further personalize your Running Story after your race. You can also add photos that you receive from supporters along the course to your Running Story. The general photos of the event in your Running Story, can easily be replaced by using the 'edit' function.

Can I watch my Running Story if I did not receive a Smart Medal?

Yes, if you were assigned an official race number and finished the race, you will have a Running Story. Open the NFC scanning feature in the Smart Medal app by tapping the white icon. Tap on ‘cancel’ and wait for one second. The ‘Add manually’ button will now automatically appear. Tap this button and a page will open that lets you manually select an event and enter your race number, which will allow you to access your Running Story.

I’ve lost my Smart Medal. What now?

If you’ve already scanned your Smart Medal with your smartphone in the past and lose your Smart Medal afterwards, you can continue to watch your Running Story, because it will automatically be stored in the Smart Medal app.

Even if you lose your Smart Medal before scanning it with your smartphone, you can still gain access to your Running Story. Open the NFC scanning feature in the Smart Medal app by tapping the white icon. Tap on ‘cancel’ and wait for one second. The ‘Add manually’ button will now automatically appear. Tap this button and a page will open that lets you manually select an event and enter your race number, which will allow you to access your Running Story.

I can’t scan my Smart Medal. What now?

  • In some cases you might experience difficulties scanning your Smart Medal. This can have a few reasons. Please follow the steps below to increase your chance on a successful scan:
  • Make sure you have the most recent version of the Smart Medal App on your smartphone (please update if you don’t)
  • Your phone cover might blocks the signal. If you want to be sure the signal isn’t blocked, please remove your phone cover before scanning.
  • Check if your smartphone supports the NFC-scan technique. On this page you’ll find all smartphones supporting the NFC-scan technique:
  • Are you in possession of a smartphone running on Anroid? Please check in your settings if the NFC-scan technique is enabled.
  • Scan your Smart Medal by putting it on the upper half of the back of your smartphone. The NFC-scan technique can usually be found in the area around the camera.

If you’re still unable to scan your Smart Medal, please add your event manually. If your smartphone is running on Android you can already find this button, if your smartphone is running on iOS it will appear after tapping the ‘cancel’ button twice

What will you do with my personal data?

The Smart Medal app only uses personal data made available by the organizers of the event or the timing partner involved in the event. Your data will only be retrieved after you download the Smart Medal app, scan your Smart Medal and link it to your race number. The data retrieved by the app will only be used for your Running Story. Does the Smart Medal app comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?
